BECOME A CO-OPTED PARISH COUNCILLOR
Do you care about your community? Want to help shape its future?
We’re inviting applications to fill casual vacancies on the Parish Council through co-option. If you live in or near Stainland, Holywell Green, Jagger Green, Outlane, Old Lindley or Sowood, this is your chance to make a lasting difference.
Whether you’re passionate about green spaces, local services, transport links, or community events—your voice matters. We welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect our vibrant parish.
👥 WHAT DO PARISH COUNCILLORS DO?
- Attend monthly council meetings
- Represent residents’ views and concerns
- Help improve local services, amenities, and public spaces
- Work with Calderdale Council and other bodies to advocate for our parish
- Support community projects and events that bring people together
No special qualifications are needed—just a willingness to get involved. Training is available to help you understand the role.
✅ WHO CAN APPLY?
You must be:
- A British citizen, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or European Union
- Over 18 years of age
And meet at least one of the following:
- Be a registered elector for the parish
- Have lived in the parish (or within 3 miles) for the past 12 months
- Work in the parish
- Own or rent land/property in the parish
You don’t need to be connected to a political party. You will need to sign up to the Council’s Code of Conduct.

- Why you’d like to become a councillor
- Any relevant experience or community involvement
